Bow/Broach Tutorial

I haven't done a tutorial for quite some time now! I came across this bow/broach tutorial on this blog called 'Trey and Lucy' and I fell in looooove. I had to try it. I have made a few of them, but none of mine look as good as hers. I Think my problem is that I keep using too flimsy of fabric. So, when you try this, get a thick fabric.

This is what it turns out like:

option 1- wear it as a broach

option 2- wear it in your hair!

So, here is my rendition of this bow. I used a jersey like fabric because I love the color and I had just the right amount of it. Cut it about 2 inches wide, and fold in half. You can make it as long as you want. The longer, the bigger the bow.

tie a knot in one end of it.

take your knot and roll it like you would in a normal rosette bow. (twist it kinda like a cinnamon roll haha)

Keep folding it around and under the main big knot in the middle.

When you fold it, fold it like this one each time. Make sure you are folding it in towards the middle.

I hot glued mine as I went, but you can do it all and pin it as you go, and hand sew it.

When I was finished it looked like this:

Wala!

Lucy's was much much better than mine, but someday, I will get that good! Plus, her fabric was way stiffer than mine. But you should all try it! And since my tutorial probably doesn't really make sense, check out her BLOG for a video tutorial :)

O Christmas Tree

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!! Yay! Oh how I love this season.. The snowy nights and Christmas music, the tree, the lights, the food, the giving, the receiving, and the remembering of the Saviors birth.

First off before I start into the christmas stuff, I gotta share what we did for Thanksgiving. We were in charge of the mashed potatoes. K, we were planning on 37 people eating at Kevin's parents house, so I used the rule of one potato per a person. I used real potatoes, not instant. It took us an hour to get those things cooked! (and 3 pans!) Haha. They were soo yummy, but we made way too much and had lots left over. We ate at his parents house, and then went to my parents for some pie and hang out time. It was a good day! After that, we were watching dogs and house sitting someones house in Spanish Fork, so we went there and watched movies and went to bed EARLY (like 9) so we could get up to shop early the next morning!

The next morning, we got up at 4:30 and headed straight to Walmart. We wanted to get an HP laptop that was on sale for 300, but we didn't get there early enough so we didn't get it :( However, we ended up getting a GPS, and a sewing machine!! I was soo happy about that. The sewing machine is my birthday present.

We then went to Old Navy and bought us some fleece pj pants, and a shirt for me, and two shirts for Kevin. We then went back to Spanish fork and tried to get back to sleep!! We only slept for like 2 hours and then couldn't sleep anymore. We bummed around allll day long playing their play station and piano, and watching movies. It was sooo incredibly nice to have a relaxing day! We went home around 5 that night and then set up our tree!!

We got our prelit tree that is 6.5 feet tall at Walmart last year for $30 on black friday. I don't love it, because it's very bare, but it works for us!

This wont rotate. Sorry. But just imagine. :) I love the way it's decorated!!!!

We also got some garland and wrapped some lights around it for the railing to our front door. I plan to jazz it up a little more with some more ribbon and more lights or something.

Our front door wreath lights up, but there is no way for us to light it up because if you opened the door, it would pull the plug out.. haha! I plan on putting my cute ornament wreath up here, and putting this in the window or something.

We also woke up to a bunch of snow this morning!!! Soo happy about that!

Got this at the dollar store last year. Last year I wasn't much into decorations but now that I am, I want to go to Tai Pan and get a few things!

Ok, don't laugh. But today, I got my sewing machine out and made a stocking. I really had no idea what I was doing. Trust me, I have no idea how to sew.... But I made this up.. haha! I just kinda cut out a shape, and started sewing. It looks ridiculous... but I plan to get REALLY good at sewing and make some cute things with it. For now, laugh at my first project.

haha.

But super excited about this! I love it!

More decor. Santa letters and my metal christmas trees!

Love the top of our tree.

This coming month, we hope to do these things:

have a friend christmas dinner
go ice skating at the gallivin center in SLC
see the lights at temple square
go snowboarding
get our christmas shopping done in 2 weeks!
get christmas gifts/treats put together for our friends and neighbors
watch as many christmas movies as possible
eat lots of good food :)
listen to christmas music, lots and lots of it!
go sledding
drink lots of hot chocolate
and any other christmas related activities... :)

Plain boring updates and a tender mercy

It's been a while since I've just done a plain ol boring update.

Kev and I have been soooo busy this last month.

I have worked a ton. Thank goodness. Being booth rent is kinda scary because you are easily spending 350 a month at LEAST on color and booth rent.. and if you don't make a ton extra to cover that and then make quadruple that, then you are loosing a bunch. So Booth rent is kinda scary. But I like it because of the freedom to do so. I might have to raise my prices a little though...

I have been scrapbooking a ton for someone. But, our computer is almost out of space so that has been putting a cramp in my style.. I have not been able to get things done as fast as I would like because our computer is being soooo slow!!

It's also harder because now that it's cold we cant drive the scooter... so back to one form of transportation. Therefore, I take kev to work, pick him up, take him to school, pick him up... Reason he doesn't just take the car is because my schedule at work is all over the place. I worked till 10 PM the other night. It's just never the same schedule, so usually, I take the car. But because of that, we fill up our dang car like twice a week. It sucks.

Kevin is CRAZY busy with school and work. I never see him it seems like! He is working his butt off though and I'm so proud of him. His accounting class has been super hard for him but so far he is passing haha.

Our heater has been going for a while now. It's always freezing at our apartment. I think its because the windows are soo horrible and old. They definitely need new windows here.

Kev and I are planning on doing some black friday shopping. Look out for us at walmart and old navy! We plan to get a new laptop and some clothes and maybe a few other things.

It's my little sister Kaitlin's 19th birthday today. Holy cow. I cant believe she is 19. She seems like she was just in high school. But shes all grown up now! She has become my best friend, I could not make it through some days without her! So happy bday katydid, I love you! (and that means 8 days till my birthday!)

I started on a depression medication. I wasn't sure if I was going to share that, but I feel like it's good to be open about it. So, yea. I am starting to feel like maybe it's working. It's only been a week, but I can tell that I have felt a lot better already. The first few days I started taking it, I was extremely tired, and could hardly stay awake, but I think my body was just trying to get used to a new medication. But It will be about 3 weeks till I can tell the whole effect of it. So far though, good. I feel much better. I was amazed because I had debated about getting help with depression for a looong time, but after praying about it, I felt like ok, I can't do this alone, it's time to go get some professional help. So, I did, and when I went to the doctor, I started telling her how I felt and that I had previously been on some medication for it 3 years ago. She cried as I told her how I felt about myself sometimes, and I cried too. I felt like the spirit was wrapping a warm blanket around me because my doctor was so sympathetic and sensitive and really truly listened to me and I felt like she understood me. She gave me lots of advice, and free samples to last me till I see her next. I had told her that I wanted to come in a while ago, but we don't have insurance, so I didn't think we could keep affording appointments, but after praying about it, felt like it was the best decision to go in now. After the visit was over,  I went to the front desk to pay, and the girl went to go get the billing sheet. She came back without a billing sheet and a smile on her face and just said "Dr. Dayton wants to treat you for free." I had tears in my eyes, but a big smile on my face and just in AWE! I mean, really?? It made my day, and confirmed the fact that I did indeed need to get this taken care of. I'm not ashamed to be on the medication. It will help me get back to normal! I mean, God puts modern medicine in our reach to help us with things like this because we can't all be perfect! I just felt so happy and loved and I went into my car and just cried and cried and felt so much better! What a tender mercy in my life. Kevin was grateful too.

For thanksgiving tomorrow, I'm in charge of the mashed potatoes, and deviled eggs. Can't wait! I guess deviled eggs were brought upon our family by my sister in law Michelle (which I found out today.. I thought it was always just something we did as a family!) So, thanks Michelle, I looooove deviled eggs! :)

Today, I am grateful for tender mercies of the Lord. We have to prove to him we will trust him and have faith in him before he can humble us and give us answers to our prayers. I am also so grateful for my doctor who really truly helped me out and served me.

Santa Blocks

I got crafty again yesterday and made some Christmas blocks! Ally did it with me, she put the words 'believe' on her blocks. Kevin brought home some wood, and then Ally and I went up to my sister in law Lisa's house to use her cricut. (Did I already mention that I nnnneeeeeddddd one of those???) This is how it turned out:

I still need to embellish them a little more, but for now, this is all I had at the house.
See how cute? The cricut cuts all these things out!

So, first, I lightly brushed the blocks with paint.

I traced out my blocks on cute christmas-y scrapbook paper.

This is Ally's paper

After the paint dried, we modpodged the scrapbook paper on, then cut out our letters on the cricut. We then glued the letters on, and modpodged over the top of the letters to give it a glossy finish.

I then hand drew a stencil for some holly berry leaves and cut them out with some cute paper I had, and added 2 red buttons to look like the berries. I added a few others buttons to some of the blocks.

I also sanded the edges to give it more of a distressed feel

The red fabric is felt. I didn't know what to put there. Haha.

Added a paper flower to this one.

Added some netting/tule here

I will have to embellish them a little more, but I love them, and can't wait to put up the rest of my christmas in 2 days!!!!

Today, I'm thankful for mountain dew. :)
